South Carolina Need Based Grant Affidavit
Student Information

Affidavit Information

The South Carolina Need-Based Grant is derived from a calculated need as determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Awards must be adjusted to prevent any over award in the event additional gift aid is received.

To be eligible for the SCNBG, the student must:

1. Be a legal resident of South Carolina.

2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year and meet all eligibility requirements annually.

3. Demonstrate a financial need as established for Title IV programs when determining eligibility for federal student financial aid.

4. Be enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate student in the associate, baccalaureate or Title IV eligible one-year program, authorized by CHE at an eligible two-year or four-year public college or university in South Carolina. (Students that have obtained a two-year or four-year degree are NOT eligible for the South Carolina Need-Based Grant).

5. Be enrolled in at least six credit hours (half-time status) each semester. Continued eligibility requires completion of registered courses.

6. Certify that he/she has no criminal record, has never been convicted of a felony, and is of good moral character by submitting an affidavit to the institution testifying to the fact.

7. Certify that he/she does not owe a refund or repayment on a State Grant, a Pell Grant, or a Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant and is not in default on a loan (verification obtained from the FAFSA).

8. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 (“C”) or above.

The South Carolina Need-Based Grant is dependent upon action by the General Assembly and amounts are contingent upon the availability of funds to be appropriated for the program. The award is based on your attendance status and may be adjusted according to the number of credit hours you register for each term after the drop/add period. A student cannot receive the SCNBG for more than eight semesters.

Required Certification and Affidavit:

State law requires that a student receiving the State Need Based Grant must certify that he/she has no criminal record, has never been convicted of a felony as defined under State Statute Section 16-1-10, and is of good moral character by submitting a signed affidavit to the institution. This affidavit must be signed by the student. Any false information provided by the student or any attempt to obtain, expend, or attempt to expend any need-based grant for unlawful purposes or any purpose other than payment of reimbursement for the cost of tuition and fees and other educational costs at the institution authorized to award the grant will be cause of immediate cancellation of the need-based grant. Any student who has obtained a need-based grant through means of a willfully false statement or failure to reveal any material fact, condition or circumstances affecting eligibility will be subject to applicable civil or criminal penalties, including loss of the need based grant.

·        This certifies that I am of good moral character and have never been convicted of a felony as defined under State Statute 16-1-10. Also, I have not been convicted of a crime and have no criminal record.

·        I certify that I will use the need-based grant funds for appropriate educational purposes at Central Carolina Technical College and that I have not obtained a two-year or four-year degree.

·        I further certify I do not owe a refund or repayment on any State or Federal educational grant, and I am not in default on any Federal loan program.

·        All of the information that I have submitted to determine my eligibility is true and complete to the best of my knowledge. I have read and understand the conditions I must maintain upon receipt of the SCNBG. Also, I understand that eligibility will be determined each year by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. I certify that I will use the proceeds of this aid for necessary educational expenses only and will notify the Financial Aid Office of any outside aid received.  This award depends upon continued financial need, satisfactory academic progress, enrollment status, and the availability of funds.
